Fireflower provides a multi-disciplinary electronic data collection and management service for use anywhere in the world at any time.

Fireflower is a generic data collection system which is designed for use by all students, teachers, researchers and administrators in science and medicine, and also for general academic work in universities. It is web-based and is accessed via the Internet through cable, wireless and satellite connections using modern browsers. It is available on all computers and most PDA’s.

Fireflower is unusually multi-lingual in that users can use their own language to see and edit data regardless of the languages used by other members of their group. In a worldwide multi-lingual network all users use only their own language, and the translations and descriptions of data are all instantly available in other languages, the number of which is now being increased. Users will not need to worry about other languages, and the translations are always specifically correct.

Fireflower provides sophisticated audit trails, a myriad of error checking facilities, and important administration facilities to manage the data in and out of its servers and to ensure data is secure and only managed by its owners. Users will never be without their data, at home, on holiday or at a convention. They will never lose their data, even if their computer is stolen, or broken. Their data is not on their computers, but is mirrored between distant Fireflower servers, and even earthquakes will not destroy their data.

Fireflower comprises an integrated system of modules developed especially to bring together multi-disciplinary work to better understand interactions which characterize environmental and epidemiological research. Users receive a centralized service which collects, secures, stores, shares, searches, analyzes and retrieves all kinds of digital data. The service is powerful yet easy to use. It allows dispersed groups to bring their data together into one single searchable source with real time sharing. It looks for correlations over the whole breadth of a user’s data, seeking patterns and paths in the way diverse systems integrate in the biosphere.

Fireflower clients have absolute control over their own data, but if they desire, they can provide multiple access to parts of their data to other specified people, allowing them to view different parts of their data from anywhere in the world at the same time. The use of Fireflower automatically adds value to a client’s data, by virtue of its facilities to secure, store, integrate, correlate search, share and analyse data, while overcoming language barriers.
